History
Dorr Township did not get its permanent name until 1850. It was known officially
as Woodstock Precinct, named as such by the Commissioner's Court on June 3, 1845.
Then, in 1850, when the township system was adopted, the first name given was
Center Township. Later that year, a group of citizens not liking the name of Center
Township, chose the name Dorr for a Rhode Island governor. (More

Summer
Gas Savings Benefit Program
State's
Attorney Louis A. Bianchi announces that he will initiate a Summer Gas Savings
Benefit Program for his administrative assistants to participate in from July
7th through August 29th. The program will allow all administrative assistants
to alter their five day work week to four days while maintaining the same working
hours. The program will save administrative assistants a projected 20% on fuel
expenses throughout the summer. In addition, the program recognizes and rewards
the hard work of the administrative assistants and allows them to spend more time
with their families. It also conforms to the county "Go Green" program
to conserve energy. The office will keep its hours serving police departments
(24 hours), the courts and citizens from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Participation
in the program is optional; however, with increasing fuel prices, it is anticipated
that the majority of administrative assistants will choose to participate. The
program will allow all administrative assistants to eliminate an entire day of
commuting to and from work each week.
State's
Attorney Bianchi announced the initiation of the optional program this morning
to his staff. It was well received because of the cost savings benefit as well
as the increased family time the program offers.

Where
Do Your Recyclables Go?
Have
you ever wondered where your recyclables go when they leave the curb? What happens
after the recycling workers dump them into the truck and drive away? Do they really
get recycled? Believe it or not, the materials go through an amazing sorting process
and then become "new products".
McHenry
County Defenders Close Woodstock Recycling Center
After
much thoughtful deliberation, the McHenry County Defenders Board of Directors
has determined that is in the best interest of the organization to close its recycling
facility permanently. The McHenry County Defenders remains committed to the preservation
and protection of the environment and is not abandoning recycling. Instead, the
organization will be refocusing its efforts in the areas of education and advocacy.
